For more information on sources and a key to abbreviations used in the Manufacturers Index, see: Sources of Information. If you have information to add to this Manufacturers Index entry, please contact the Old Wood Working Machines Historian.

This company made machinery both under their own name (sometimes abbreviated AM&T or AMT) and for Craftsman; Craftsman machines made by AMT have the model-number prefix of 149.

The history of this company is currently quite murky. It dates back to 1928. Abraham Pollak patented several machines that were manufactured by AMT; some of this had earlier been manufactured by Marcus Pollak.

For some time, AMT has specialized in the design and manufacture of pumps. In February 2002, AMT was acquired by Gorman-Rupp Co. of Mansfield, OH. AMT no longer has any information on their old woodworking machinery products, and does not provide support.

Information Sources

  • Correspondent Brian Clairmont reports that his AMT catalog #27 says, "Shaping Your World Since 1928".
  • Trademark filing shows first use in 1928, and lists some woodworking machines in its product list: jointers, planers, shapers, routers, saws, lathes, drill presses, sanders, and dovetail cutters. Some of these machines may have been for metalworking only.
  • They advertised in Popular Mechanics: a 1961 ad shows their 8" tablesaw ("over 400,000 sold") for $9.95. By 1965 they were asking $14.95. Motors were not included in the price.
  • Batory lists some 1989 catalogs from AMT.
  • An undated Marcus-Pollak tablesaw has a miter gauge labeled, "A. M. & T. Co. Inc. Royersford, PA". Both Marcus-Pollak and AM&T were in Royersford.
